IMHO Stereophile's review conclusions of this source were fair and valid. The Njoe Tjoeb remains an unusual source component both in being a modded cheap Marantz and in allowing/encouraging user internal component switching. While this appealed to me (and worked out well for me), I can readily imagine that it would not conceptually be everybody's cup of tea. If your DIY gene is dormant (or recessive), such component fiddling could give you fits. If you are dependent on others "Golden Eared" opinions, then the 4000 could leave you distressed and conflicted. The Njoe Tjoeb requires, quite simply, just a little bit of owner self confidence.
