ahhh, now these are some very interesting comparisons.
welcome back to the boards, Michael.
plain is good, imo. attracts less attention and makes you less of a target for thieves.
your description here makes them sound like they might be more analagous to the alessandro ms-pro. if that's true that's a very good thing! thanks for sharing your impressions.
Thanks. I've been posting less because I think I've beat upgradidas and have been very happy with my current setup.
I always like to give new iems a try in case they surprise me. These were really really good but still too close to the ue10. Also, universal fit is a pain after using customs for a long time.
I believe I was using a prototype and didn't not see the final product. I'm not to concerned about looks anyway.
I've never heard the alessandro's so I can't compare. I loved the RS-1 sound, so I had no reason to seek the MS-Pro.
So you mean Westone 3 had better bass and clearer mids? Or it is the other way around?
I currently own Shure E500, and I find Shure E500 does rock way more fun than UE10 Pro. How is Westone 3 mids compared to Shure E500?
thanks for writing out the preliminary impression.
The westone 3 had better bass impact. I think the ue10 goes deeper and might have a little more bass detail. The westone 3 also are the ones with clearer mids.
I've only listened to the E500 for about 5 minutes over a year ago. I though it had better bass impact than the ue10, but the mids were about the same and the highs were worse. Based on that, I prefer the westone 3.
Remember, I prefer a Grado sound, so all my preference are in comparison to that. Some might prefer flatter mids, but I like that twangy sound all Grados have except the GS1000. For someone looking for a neutral iem, the ue10 is probably perfect. Great sound but nothing's exciting and it doesn't sound real to me. For the sound I like, the westone 3 is the closest but still not quite close enough. Since westone uses Grados as a starting point, maybe they'll come out with an iem that's more dedicated toward rock.
I currently use the E500 and listen mostly to Rock and Metal.
They are a superb IEM can but they don't excel in Rock and Metal IMO, I'm seriously thinking of giving the Westone 3 a shot once they will be released.
Based on iamoneagain's comments, it sounds they will suit my likings

Being a HUGE Westone UM2 fan, we already got as big allocation request as we could get on the new Westone 3. Keep in mind these are the ONLY Triple Driver earphones made in US. Actually aside from the ER4 the UM1, UM2 and now the Westone 3 are the only earphones made in the USA. I found that to be a great thing. Our return rates are extremelly low on Westone earphones.
Congratulations to Dale, Doug and all at Westone! Most times it pays to wait and we are glad to be part of it all!

@Flavio, sry that I was one of the apparently few who actually did return a Westone Product ^^ (UM2 in exchange for S.Fi 5 Pro).
But Hey, after I read all that very interesting information there might be a good chance that I'll order this new upcoming Westone
Basically all the changes in sound, which were mentioned here kinda speak for exactly that what I'd want to have improved over the UM2-- this might become the perfect IEM for me if the promised changes eventually are true.
