They are totally different. The ES3 has a bump in the 3-5k range so it gives the vocals and guitars a much more forward presence. The Westone3 uses different drivers and is a more natural sound, nothing artificial. ;-)
Alrighty. Thanks for the info. Now for the waiting game called patience

Have you or anyone heard the "new" Sennheiser IE-8's (or even IE-6, IE-7)? If so, how do they compare to Westone 3?

On a pure audiological basis, iPods suck because: sticking a harddisk, several switching power supplies, a CPU with a few hundreds of MIPs, LCD with backlight etc inside such a small box along with audio electronics is bound to have some effects... Think that it has at least :
- switching PSU for the backlight
- switching PSU for the HDD +5 / +12 V
- switching PSU for the electronics (3.3V probably)
- HDD spindle motor and actuator making huge magnetic fields
- etc
Headphone amps: PIMETA; PPA2 w/BB and CrossFeed; Meier HA-Corda 2 (Mk. 1; circa 2004 model; modded w/snubbers); Headroom Little w/more Power and "Premium" Module (circa 1997; modded w/snubbers); Go-Vibe (Low-Gain); Xin Super Macro (default version); modded Van Alstine Fet-Valve preamp (w/modded AD843-based headphone amp)
Headphones: Shure E500 / E2c; AKG 701; Grado SR-325i/SR-80; Beyerdynamic DT-880; Sennheiser 580/600/650

I'm sure I'll give them a listen in October. They use a dynamic driver, so it really comes down to personal taste in the sound. In my personal opinion, balanced armatures provide better clarity over dynamic drivers (in this size range). They are still good sounding product, I love the full size Sennheiser cans.
Does anyone know which silicon tips are using for Westone 3? Is it possible to buy them separately and do they worth it? I'm asking, because Westone, IMHO, is the best about ergonomics, so I expect nice comfort and good niose isolation from theese silicon tips.

They are ones we designed. They will be available separately with "fit kit" shortly after the 3 releases.
