Default Sennheiser HD-555 custom cable

Who has made a custom cable for their Sennheiser HD-555? I've googled and searched the forums, but can't seem to find much information.

The stock cable is 10' long, ending in a 6.3 mm plug. It also comes with a 3.5 mm adapter.

I'm going to be using these mainly with my ipod. Since I don't need that much cable length, I have about 6 of the 10 feet wrapped up and zip-tied. Also, since the input jack for the ipod is not 6.3 mm, I have to use an adapter. I have the grado adapter extension, so there isn't quite so much bulk near the input jack.

Ideally, what I would like to make is a 4ft. or so cable with a 3.5 mm plug - something that would not only be more fitting for my setup, but also something that would maximize the qualities of my sound.

Has anyone done such a thing? If so, how did you go about doing it, and what parts/methods did you use? Keep in mind I'm completely new to the custom mod thing, but I have all the time and motivation in the world to learn.

Thanks a lot for your help,
-sn0man
