Default Noisy Pot?

I just completed my second cmoy. It seemed to work fine before installing the Panasonic EVJ 10k pot.
After pot was cut in, lots of noise (some stray radio signals also) , only left channel with volume low, as vol was increased - both channels but with lots of static.
Also not much volume control and Volume could not be turned all the way down.

Tried 2 different pots.No change.

Wiring seems correct according pot diagram. I had the output ground close to the TLE 2426, so I moved it. Volume could then be turned all the way down but still noisy and left channel only for about 50% of travel then both channels.
Next I shorted the input to the output ground on the pot. This seems to have fixed all problems. So I bent the tabs and soldered the input and output grounds together. It's been running for a couple of hours and sounds really good.
It's not in an enclosure yet.

Any Ideas or thoughts?

TIA,
Chris

Ok... Is there any reason that the input and output ground should not be tied together at the pot ?

I traced all the connections. It seems to wired correctly. I also reheated most of the joints and checked that there were no bridges. Maybe I still missed something.

Chris
