Default Modifying the NAD C521BEE

This project is a work in progress. Some pics of what I've done so far:

Reinforced the disc-clamping bridge with epoxy.

Added dynamat to transport frame, laser assembly, drive motor, main chassis, and top cover.

Added a pair of Mundorf 10uF M-Cap's bypassed with WIMA 0.22uF in each channel for output caps.

Installed an IEC jack and 12ga power wire. The hole came out a bit rough and I scratched the case a few times with the file , but it works.

Eventually I plan on getting a few different op-amps to roll, installing some nicer RCA jacks, replacing all the electrolytic caps with Rubycon ZL series, and changing the S/PDIF out from a RCA to a BNC jack. I don't want to go overboard modding this player since I'm saving the good stuff for a DIY DAC, probably something like the DDDAC1543 MK2.

I finally got some more terminal blocks so now all of the signal caps going into and out of the opamps can be easily rolled.

I disassembled the Mundorf/WIMA combo and I'm now running an un-bypassed 10uF M-Cap in each position instead.

Looks nice. Well, actually it looks absolutely hideous, but the concept looks interesting. I feel inspired to start ripping my one apart.

I've seen that DAC on DDD's site; it looks pretty promising. Have you heard it yourself and do you know if it's capable of balanced outputs?

Try biasing the opamps into class A. This did wonders in my cheap sony DVD player. I used a pair of jfets.
