First up is wire 22AWG solid core copper->cotton sleeve->carbon techflex->neutrik mini
next is a Mundorf Pure Silver 24AWG->clear Techflex->Neutrik Right angle plug. (made using punnishers wonderful recipe but slightly modified on the inside with more strain relief)now this one was a PITA due to the modified dock connector and as you can see its a bit rough. I melted the casing JUST B4 i glued it shut because I was lazy and just used the heat shrink tip on my Gas soldering iron instead of going upstairs and getting my hot air shrink gun, this made it impossible to get a proper fit and screwed it up royally ;( the scream could be heard for miles. It still works great though; and is very flexible.
And one with my grubby workshop fingertips eeewww!!! you can see where the heat not only shrunk the shrink tubing but melted/shrunk the casing DOH!!!! ;(
Last is not quite finished because my Silver bodied Switchcrafts haven't arrived yet. but I think its my favorite to date as far as execution I managed to keep the braid very narrow so the silk wasn't tight, making it very sleek and flexible.
I just built a simple IC for the FiiO....Neutrik plugs (gifted to me by Pavel-FallenAngel ), heatshrink and some spare Canare Starquad. Found out that I don't really like the Neutrik plugs, as I had to drill the opening to 1/4" to fit the Starquad. The finish also seems to be easily scratched, and due to the smaller size of it, there's very little room to work with. I can now see why Switchcraft commands such a high price for their minis. It's more durable and has a lot more 'heft'...plus looks better...if only I could find a reliable cheap Canadian source......
here are some more pics. I posted a half finished LOD a couple of days ago....
well here is the finished product. possibly the bendiest LOD ive seen let alone made.
materials: Silver dock connector with 3 coats of satin finish clear coat. 4 wire Mundorf 24AWG Silver/gold->silk->carbon techflex->switchcraft gold tipped silver mini.
and here it is ...bendy as hell photo taken in my lovely back yard where I love to relax of an afternoon with a coffee and 'cigarette' I reckon I could bend it all the way around with no trouble.
Thats it for today; I have nearly finished 2 low profile docks one of which is for my iphone its looking beautiful so far, I'm just waiting for the 3rd satin coat to dry before finishing it off.

yes the outer layer on this is 1/8" techflex in 'carbon' flavour which is half black half clear so in the flesh it has a silvery grey kind of.... carbon-like appearance . under this is silk tubing. It is not shielding as such, at least in the electrical sense of the word, although they do make a silvery mylar version which is metalized and can be used as an electronic shield as well as looking great. Unfortunately that is only available in sizes 1/4" and up, so great for rca cables or anything that will be used at home but not so much for portable use; at least thats what I summize from the specs; perhaps it shrinks to a small enough nominal diameter to be used in portable rigs... I guess i'll find out soon. The only type of RF shielding this cable has is 2 grounds, one of which can be a floating shield. Although in this case i'm going to ground it (the second ground wire) just before I fill the mini with epoxy, after i've tested it properly so it can be used with iphone. I just bought some of the mylar and some other type of shielded tubing to try out with the iphone cables so that perhaps they can be used while the phone is on and not just in airplane mode. They will arrive next week sometime. With a decently shielded amp such as anything from headamp or Ray (just to name a couple) there is only mild interference when using the phone and I hope to do away with this entirely by shielding the dock connector and cable properly. I will report back on this.
happy DIY'ing guys

I really like that shot. Good job. What Cam did you use and is it natural lighting?
