DIY Attenuator cable question

The purpose is to reduce the hum I hear at night with my CX 300s in, since I listen more ambient artists any quiet spot it shows its ugly head.

I haven't come across a guide to attaching an inline resistor[1/2W 100ohm Metal-Oxide] yet so my question is how would I go about soldering the resistor to the wire?

They will be housed in a Neutrik NYS228

You dont need 1/2W resistors for a cable like this. If you are DISSIPATING 1/8W in this resistor, you have some issues with excessive volume levels (IMHO) use 1/8W parts, they are smaller so you have more room for mechanical errors.

Although I am not familar with that connector in specfic for others this is what I do:

Bend the lead on ONE END of the resistor so it goes back towards the other end. then solder the wire to this bent lead next to the body of the resistor. trim the lead as appropriate. Heat-shrink the resistor and end of the wire together. Solder the other lead of the resistor to the connector on the plug.

I read this here and only found 1/2W is the smallest Metal-Oxide resistors came in, at my local shop. Last thing I want is more noise.

This solution just did not work for me in the slightest, I checked with my multimeter and there is a 100 Ohm load but this noise continues to come through unabated.
