The problem with the E3 is that everything is incredible miniaturized and the board and space is sooo small. You'll have to solder with a needle if anything.

I think a volume control would be awesome with this amp. Whats the deal with the e5? I just went on FiiO Electronic Technology-www.fiio.com.cn and there was no mention of it. I'm interested.

Agree. I will juste change the battery and add a volume control.
