xcanv3 crispy sound - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio

Hello,

I've got a pair of HD-650 Sennheiser headphones and a Music Fidelity X-CAN v3. It's the first time I connect them, and I'm hearing crispy noise all the time especially at the left side. What's that? It's something to do with the tubes warm-up? or should I connect to ground or smth.
please help! thanks!

i have the same amp, different headphones though. I also started hearing a noise from the left channel, a sort of hiss, kind of a muted-crispy hiss if you like. that was a few weeks ago now, but now it's just a constant hiss..

i'm sure it's probably a tube or something.. i plan to do the Pink Floyd mods and changing tubes so i'm not worried about it at hte moment..

maybe its cheap tubes?

azurita, is this a new amp (under warranty)? If yes, take it back to the dealer for an exchange.

If you bougth it used then I would check two things. First the tubes, an easy test is to swap the tubes if the "noise" moves to the other side it is the tube. The second thing I would check is the quad phono socket, the leads in it break sometimes and it will need replacement. To do a good inspection you will have to unsolder it.
