it FINALLY shipped.
when i finish my work at my other workplace, i will pick it up.

i am home, and so is the amp.
my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard....
what you gonna do with all that junk, all that junk...
from the front and back.
i keep the amp (and the MPX3 toaster) on my dresser top sideways because i prefer the layout for lots of stuff.
the power cable is off far away from my turntable, the rcas in the back and the headphone jack in the front.
the little knobs are for adjustable voltage and adjustable bias.

My toaster Supra remains my favorite and is still the best amp I have heard overall. Congratulations!

Can't believe I missed this thread. Congrats. My SDS/Supra has more than 8000 hours and still sound amazing. I just love this amp.

nice...that looks sweet! look at the size of those caps!
very industrial looking too...i think it looks better than the
black piano chassis...it must sound amazing...
is the toaster version of the supra less expensive than the
stock or the same? is it wired for 350v or 450v or can you switch?

i like the look more than the new black boxes too.
the unit is wired with the HV/LV switch. the HV option is really quite nice with the 6bl7/6bx7 tubes, but it dosnt work well with the 5687 tubes they glow WAY too red with 450V on them. odly, some of the 6sn7gt(a/b) tubes seem to LOVE 450V. the amp really lets the character of the tube shine through, while keeping a good sound.
i think this cost a little less than a newer style black-box chassis, but mikhail said he wont be building another like it. the case-work is way too labor-intensive. this was one of mikhail's prototype and test supra's so it has the newer parts, and all that jazz.
my only gripe with the amp is not at all specfic to this amp, but it has a stepped attenuator. i find myself looking for the step in between the first 3 steps too often. i tend to listen quietly.

similarly to the extreme platinum, it REALLY brings the senheissers to a level even a gradoholic can like. the senheissers have really shown themselves a very picky, almost finicky headphone. where the grados can sound decent and good on a simple amp, the senn's really have a hard time there. ooh, the supra drives the 2000-ohm HD-414 exceptionally well.
the intimacy with the R10 (which the amp is set up for specifically) is nothing short of outstanding. listening to the fairfield 4 and some vocal-jazz the other night was disturbingly good. the feeling of being in the room, with the performers singing to YOU was totally there. the system is not totally forward though, most of my classical music (recorded from the back row it seems) sounds like your sitting in the back row: its not colored.-

The 5687's are meant to be used only at 300v/ low voltage with the bias setting you have in your amp. The 5687 can supposedly handle that much voltage but the bias would have to be lowered considerably .... 450v will toast them at the bias setting in your amp.
The 6sn7gta/b's are a different spec tube and can handle 450v on the plate. That was the 6sn7gt to 6sn7gta spec change .... plate voltage max to 450v .... and the 6sn7gtb adds a controlled warmup.
I always prefer pots to stepped attenuators too. I need the volume just right.

yeppo. it was a couple accidental tries when i was getting used to the amp, and which position was which on the voltage knob.

i should have gotten the 47 step shalco stepper
