Do Meier home amps (specifically the Arietta) come with its own power cord or do you need to supply one? If so where can one find one that is compatible?

It's a standard IEC power cord.

You got to get your own cord if you buy a Arietta, it doesn't come with one. It's a standard powercable that you use with your PC or PC monitor.

What would you recommend? Will a more $ IEC make much difference (without starting a cable war- please). Duke could you link me to one that will def. work with the Arietta. Much thanks...

I missed the Aria offered in the FS forum. I cannot afford the Cantate and would like to step up from the Arietta, based on the statement that it is a "modest improvement" over the Move. I realize this is a Meier thread but know that the ASLabs is one of your favorite amps as well. I hope you don't mind commenting on it in this thread as I didn't know where else to post the question. I would like to know if there is a better amp (for $400) than the ASLabs MKIII for the HD650s.
Are there lean or bright tubes that would accentuate the mid and upper end of the 650s sound while maintaining a solid bass presence? I auditioned this amp yesterday and was surprised at the more than substantial improvement over the Xenos portable I own. The MG Head was not even burned in and was running stock tubes. I considered the Bada but have been turned off by the incredibly heated debates over it's "modifications". Is there a prominent difference/improvement in sound between the Bada and the ASLabs MK III or is it more of a preference for a particular sound?
If we are talking sound preference and not noticeably better definition and frequency extension I would go with the ASLabs due to availability and warranty support. I simply cannot afford two amps (SS and tube) and want to make a good decision after all these months of searching. Thanks for any input here and I am sorry for straying a little off topic.

The ASL OTL Mk III is a great tube amp, with lots of tube tolling combinations. I think direct comparisons between tube amps and SS amps are difficult, but it you liked what you heard, then you should probably go with that. I like my ASL amp very much.

Hi Skylab,
Excellent and balanced review, yet again! I'm just wondering if you had a chance to try your DT990's with the Arietta? Was it able to sufficiently drive them, and do you have any other thoughts about this pairing?
Thanks again!

My DT990's are 600 ohm, and the Arietta has enough to drive them for me, a lower-volume listener, but it's not the ideal amp for 600 ohm cans IMO. I would get the Cantate for that, and operate it in high gain.

Do you think the Arietta would be able to power the 250 ohm DT990s sufficiently?

High gain & Low gain on Meier amps have different sound signatures. There is a thread about this right now. High gain does not merely "turn up the juice" with his amps.

It looks like Jan had to raise the US$ prices of his amps to compensate for the low dollar.
http://www.meier-audio.homepage.t-online.de/index.htm
Luckily I ordered my Arietta 1 day before the raise

The Arietta has enough Volume if your source is strong (DAC-> +/or other source as when a TV is connected to it via a PC (if the channel as a reasonable strong volume)) and if your music is reasonably loud (if you like to listen your music loud as me) it will have the power, not tons but only enough (as the same volume of the PA2V2 driving The DT770pro & DT990 without the distortion of it and obviously with an overall better sound quality).
In my case i have the XMOD as source (it's a USB DAC/DSP card) and it had two outputs. The line out has enough amplification to make the headphones with the amp to sound louder. this output has enough power to drive my DT770 unamped, but only sound louder with louder MP3s and TV channels.
In the other hand is the Headphone out. It make the sound more spacious but artificial and imprecise with my DT770pro, but the output power is the half (well a litlle bit more) than the previous.
The quality of the sound is astonishing with both of my headphones (More with the DT770pro/80 (it give his maximum potential...)), Even you can use a music player to amplify the signal (as XMplay), you will not hear distortion (although is not necessary).
