My source is a 5.5G iPod via line-out. Do you (or anybody else with experience with the Arietta) think it will be able to power the DT990s to a comfortable level? I don't like my music to be deafeningly loud, but I don't like it to be a whisper either.

Well, after a nice hibernation, Head-fi is back!
I've ordered the Arietta, and I'm currently waiting for delivery. In the meantime, does anybody have experience with using the Arietta with an iPod line-out and Beyer DT-990 cans? It seems as though this amp is a bit power-light, and I'm just wondering how it will cope with a relatively low-level lineout and relatively high-impedance cans.
Any input would be much appreciate.

It has no problem with 250 ohm cans.

I would say 60%. The Arietta is a terrific entry-level amp, and a great value. However, the Opera simply offers a more nuanced performance, managing that rare trick of being BOTH more detailed AND smoother sounding. In fact, it is that combination of smoothness and detail that makes it the top-level performer that it is.

Hi Skylab, would you mind advice me on my first Meier amp? I looking at all the cheaper ones like Arietta, Aria and Cantate. My intention is the Aria but I don't need DAC so much, so should I go for the Arietta (which would be great because I don't have so much money to spend) or kill my budget and go with Cantate!?

If you have no need at all for the DAC, and budget is an issue, yes, I would go for the Arietta - it's a great little amp.

Sorry to bother you again. In case if I do want DAC, then is the Aria satisfying (SQ-wise) or should I extend the budget and hit the Cantate? Does it really worth it? Thank you.

Would this mean that the Cantate's amp offers about 65% of the Opera's performance since you said that the Cantata and Arietta is very close?

Something like that, yes. The Opera is a significant step up in performance. It's a true super-amp.

You understand you would have to find an Aria used, correct? It isn't made anymore. If you want the DAC, I would get a Cantate.
