red wine audio headphone amp
vinnie over at red wine audio, whom many know as doing the ipod imod, said he is working on a headphone amp. along with the updates to his wonderful signature 30/70 amps and the new isabella DAC/preamp, vinnie's keeping himself busy. something for us to keep an eye on. vinnie anticipates it will be ready in early 2008...

I'm a fan of Vinnie's work. This should be worth following. I didn't even know about the isabella dac/amp. Though nothing's yet set in stone, I'm hopeful he'll be at CanJam '08, and we'll all have a chance to check things out.

i know. all vinnie told me was that he has a headphone amp in the works...one version of it will be a mate for the isabella DAC/pre-amp (maybe an all-in-one DAC/headphone amp/preamp) and another version a stand-alone headphone amp. my guess, though don't quote me on this, is that it's going to be a desktop amp more than a portable solution.
however, we have different definitions of portability...vinnie is a firm believer in battery-power so many of his products are "off the grid" and utilize SLA batteries. i can imagine that this headphone amp will also have an SLA battery that runs things so could potentially be portable. but, these are just my thoughts. if/when vinnie is ready to announce it, it will probably be in his forum on the audiocircle site.

I would love to see Vinnie himself introducing his products. Otherwise, I might think that he meant to spread the words of a new HD700 or HD800.

You're right, but he does mention that one option for Isabella is a headphone amp stage built in:
"A phono stage and headphone amp stage is something that I am onsidering offering as built-in option. Again, everything inside will be entirely ran on SLA battery power (no matter what that add-on options are)."

I love my sig 30. Still undecided about the update to 30.2. Don't mess with perfection. My Dad taught me that.

Vinnie tells me that the Sig 30.2 upgrade is even better with the K1000s:
Quote:
"Hi Tom,
I believe that I am the only one who has compared the Signature 30 vs Signature 30.2 with the K1000s. The sound of the 30.2 is very noticeably improved over the Sig 30 when driving the K1000s! Right out of the box, the sound of the 30.2 is a lot fuller, richer, and more musically involving.
For the K1000s, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better sounding battery-powered, "portable" amp for them!
I hope some K1000s owners get to hear the Signature 30.2 soon. I'll try my best to attend the headfi show in NYC on Nov 10th and bring the 30.2 and maybe some other prototype goodies
Lots of things are cooking on the RWA stove and I want to make sure everything is cooked to perfection, even if it means taking a little more time.
Thanks,
Vinnie"

Sorry to bump this thread.
But I wonder if anyone have any news about the RWA headphone amplifier? I wonder if its anything like the Signature 30.2, but with a headphone connector (hopefully a 4-pin XLR for the K1000 as well) in the front panel...
That would be awesome!

The headphone amp is incorporated in the new Isabella pre-amp. Info is posted on Vinnie's web site:
Red Wine Audio Isabella
See at the bottom of the page for the options and price... a bit pricey if you only need a headphone amp but if you need a high end pre-amp then I'm sure his will blow you away.
