I've got the RSA Hornet and the HD650(w/saa equinox cable), no worries driving-I place the hornet's gain to medium and leave the volume at about 9 or 10 o'clock-never more. I'll tell you that when I use my Ipod Classic 80GB w/ALO jumbo cryo to the RSA hornet the combo is amazing. Wonderfully wide soundstage with such a warm presentation with a lovely bass-love it!

Will you use your amp and HD650 outside?
If no, get a home amp.

I used to use my Hornet with my HD650, it is a great combination with a lot of synergy in my opinion. The whole spectrum clears up, bass tightens and the music is more in your face. I've since upgraded to a Corda Cantate, but there are times that I miss my Hornet. Recommended.

Default RSA with Senns

I understand and read that Ray Samuels uses Senn cans with his product in his shop. He uses HD600 as his reference. So that should work well with his products.
Also a lot of reviewers i've read pairs Senn s with RSA products to good effect.

Should be a great combo

Be aware that Pico is not RSA - Predator is latest RSA portable offering.
Be aware there are two different Hornets - Original (OG) and Modified (M). They have different sound signatures with M being most popular but OG having more aggressive presentation (much preferred by some). Both IMHO outshine the Tomahawk for sound signature, though the Tomahawk has them beat on size and battery life .

If I were you I'd also check out some of the cheaper portable options that are said to perform as well as the RSA Hornets - Mini3, etc. Though I'd ask the same question of Mini3 owners in a seperate thread re: synergy with the 650s (sorry, I have experience with the amps but not with the 650s).

Good luck with your studies...your HeadFi studies, that is
