Thanks for the advice Peter but I read a review about the Old HeadAmp Gilmore V2-SE (GS-1 ancestor) against the RKV and the Gilmore was more like the Portaphile than the RKV. The V2-SE had black gates in the power supply and nothing in the signal path like the Portaphile and more importantly, many people said it was the perfect match for the SR-200's.

[edit] Hmmm.... the RKV in the review had tubes in it... ?!

Is that your work rig, USG ?

Cesar really needs to step up and finalize his Shohin, I'm really eager to see how it will end up... we haven't heard news from him since march.

The RKV most certainly does have tubes, but it's the opamp on the input side that controls the SQ and sound signature. Without the OPA627 upgrade the amp can sound thin, noisy and irritating by comparison.

I still have not been able to get worked up about any Gilmore amps I've heard (a fair number). I do, however, really like Justin's (Headamp's) new AE-2 very much.

I didn't mean to say that the OPA627-RKV sounds like the Portaphile — just that I love what it does for the K701 and I can listen to it for hours.

Wow these are pretty cheap for a full sized amp, $250..

Does it come with a power adaptor though?
