Oh, no, Good lord what have I done!
So, my wife asks me, "What's the big deal with those tube thingy's you spend so much time listening too? Why are they so much better than my iPod?".
Then I stepped in it.
I told her to get her favorite CD and I would show her.
I haven't gotten NEAR my rig for two hours now. She wants her own (650's and all). Oh, and a massage chair to "properly enhance" the experience.
I am so screwed....

Ok, so you've been married to her, and she's never heard your setup? That is how I would pick up girls! "hey ladies, wanna take a look at my tubes?"
The massage chair is a nice touch. Then again, you probably have a recliner, the male equivalent.

No you are not screwed! This is the time you slip her the "i'm going to buy new stuff and you can have this" argument.

You're a lucky man. The best anyone can hope for is that his sigoth shares his infatuations and eccentricities, and vice versa.

tried that route many months ago... told my lady that a superior source/amp/headphone
combo will get as close to the real thing as her yamaha baby-grand... it was like talking
to a wall...

This is the single best piece of information I have ever heard, in my life.

my wife said I can already hear your music from outside the k-701s, don't need to try them on.

This is a good thing. Tell your wife that there's a community of people who love headphones and get her to open an account here. Take her to meets, too. You'll get away with buying anything you want!

My girlfriend loves my headphone system and encourages me in the hobby. She has no problem with me buying good gear.
Forget the 650s, soon she will be asking you to buy her the 800s and THEN you're screwed.

I must say that this is quite interesting. Girls have better hearing than men, but still they are normally not interested in HIFI. Maybe it's because they haven´t been properly introduced to HIFI. Think how much the marked would expand if they got interested to, and think how popular we Geeks would become!
It´s the perfect plan god dammit!
