What would be considered a "logical" (whatever that means) solid-state upgrade from the Heed Canamp? Through some research, the ones that come to mind from this forum are the following: HR-2, Meir Opera, Headamp GS-1, PS Audio or the Graham Solo.
What kind of an improvement would I find with any of the listed amps, or any other, for that matter?
Thanks for any input you might be able to provide.
going from the heed canamp to a hr-2, meir or the ps audio is not a substantial upgrade imo...perhaps 2% to 5% improvement in sound Q is not an upgrade; it's more like a tweak...that's where you're relegated to a/b-ing the amps back and forth to appreciate the subtle difference in sound signature...
a 10%+ improvement is what i consider an upgrade...this is where you can tell
a significant difference in a single hearing...a rudistor rpx-33 anyone? ...or a ear hp-4...

So maybe it's true what they say about the Canamp, that they compete with units costing upwards of three times its price? I wish I had more exprience with various headamps.
I would agree with you that if the improvement is that small, it's probably better to bypass these and shoot straight for, what, the Rudistor?, or get more music. Too bad headamps aren't more abundantly available at local retailers.
at the NYC meet, and being a Heed owner, I was very impressed with the SinglePower line. Tubes (the way they make them) or the Wooaudio line appeared to be a substantial improvement (at least 10-20%) Bear in mind all of the problems demoing equipment at a large meet.;
