At Value Village for 25 dollars Canadian! Great condition, some light scratches on the dust cover, Grado FC+ cartridge. My roommate was looking for a cheap turntable and found this.
I don't know very much about turntables, this is the first one that I've owned. I saw one web page that described this as the "legendary" 701. How good is this thing? I do know that it will need a tune up and lubrication before using it, but right now I just can't believe my luck
The DUAL 701 is a DirectDrive table from the 70s, and to this day is still very highly reguarded. $25 canadian is an absolute STEAL, as I've seen these go on ebay for as much as $450. Very solid and quiet table, still saught after, too.. The 701's tonearm had a 4-Point gimbal suspension, with two-way damping. You may never have to upgrade your table if you get into vinyl.
I just picked up my first three vinyls: Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits, Humans by Bruce Cockburn and the remaster of Someday My Prince Will Come by Miles Davis. So far, the sound is so much better than my admittedly mass market cd player that it's not even in the same ball park.
Anyone ever heard of a Grado FC+ cartridge? It's pretty funny that my first good headphone and cartridge both happened to come from the same company
