Agreed. If you are buying an amp for the customer service department, go with headroom.

Hey Sean,
how does the Lite compare to the beefed-up PPA that Voodoochile built for you?

I agree, as with any small-market-company (and headphone stereophiles are a truly small market! ;-) with few employees, time to ship will almost always be longer than a mass produced factory assembled vanilla box. Another great example in the audio world is Nelson Pass. His amps are considered to be (and I can attest to it as I own both a Pass Labs x150 and an x2.5pre) some of the worlds best... but how long have we been waiting for the release of the First Watt amps? 3 yrs? This is a labor of love, and for a few very talented individuals also an art form... and art takes time.
Also, being friends with an audio dealer, I get all the juicy stories about how damn pushy, impatient, and downright neurotic some audiophiles can be. Especially at the high-end of the market. We are worse than heroin junkies I tell you! I know it's hard to wait, but my best advice is to just relax. The wait is *almost* always worth it in the end.

Nice review guys! It's especially nice to read your opinions knowing that both of you in the past were Gilmore owners and enjoyed them but have since moved on to other amplifers so that it's not just a case of someone heavily promoting an amplfier just because they own it. I haven't had a chance to hear this one yet, just the older Gilmores but in light of what I've heard from the other amplifers, I find this review pretty easy to believe!

I unfortunately had a general idea that a whole swarm of people would come to Justins aid. It doesn't really surprise me.
What also doesnt surprise me, is that Justin has been banned from these forums.
It's for a reason folks. It's your money.

Uhhh, I don't see a whole swarm of people coming to Justin's aid. Justin has had a number of problems with customer service over time and that has been documented in both this and other threads in great detail. I see a lot more folks bashing him in this thread than defending him, but I have to agree with radrd here. I have never heard of him not shipping an amplifer although it might be late. And when you do receive the amplifer it isn't slapped together it's well made. His amps have always been one of the best for bang for the buck. you might have to wait a bit, but when you get the amp, it's something to hang on to for a long time.

I highly doubt that you have any accurate idea of why that is. Neither do I, to tell you the truth. It was before our time and I doubt there are more than a handful of people who know the whole story of anyone's banning. That said, I don't think you should make unsupported assumptions about someone's integrity based on the fact that the shipment of your amp was delayed.

Mr. ProParadox,
I happen to know quite a lot about your particular situation, and I happen to know quite a lot about Justin's various problems.
Justin is certainly not perfect, but you are not giving him a fair shake either. His capabilities as a businessman have come a very long way since a lot of the complaints were registered, and regardless of those complaints, I would be extremely surprised if you can find someone who has ever lost money dealing with Justin.

I am one. I lost 3% paypal fees. I didn't even bother asking for it. Maybe I should, just to retain his "perfect" reputation .

Weird, he could just click the "Refund" link next to your payment and send all of your money back to you.

My dealings with Justin were not exemplary, but I was perfectly satisfied with them and with the transaction nonetheless. My amp was late, and I wasn't informed proactively; those were the non-exemplary parts. On the other hand when I contacted him, I got a reasonable explanation for the delay, and a revised ship date, which was met. He also accomodated a late-in-the-game special request willingly and quickly. When I got the amp, it was quality work in every way, and it's giving me a lot of pleasure.
I'd happily deal with him again. Given the uncertainty in delivery dates I suppose I wouldn't sell my old amp until my new one was in my hands, but that's a precaution I'd probably take anyway regardless of whom I was dealing with.

I asked Justin about the current situation with the wait for the Lite, and he responded saying that the production delays have been taken care of and he expects to have a good stock of amps ready to ship without any wait sometime around the end of the month. I've only heard the Gilmore V1 briefly in a meet situation so I'd be interested in hearing the new Lite, everyone on the IRC seems to love the things.
