LSD [low self discharge] NiMH tech has dramatically improve the performance, longevity, durability, and cycle life too. However, it is new and relatively unproven tech. For general use, the Sanyo Eneloops LSD NiMH seem the very best and there seems to be no reason to buy any non-LSD NiMH cells these days
and
regular NiMH AA rechargeable batteries giving 10 shots in a digital camera, regular AA alkaline batteries gave 90 buy Sanyo eneloops gave over 400 shots on a charge!
Of course, there was a time when one could get LSD in a sugarcube. So I don't know how I can pass up the opportunity to go trippin' with LSD in my iQube!

i'm still interested in hearing from anyone using iQube with ER-4S. i'd be looking to use either iQube (getting a purchases broker now) or Xin SuperMakro IV (sigh, long waiting list) in my portable system. Any comments on iQube vs Xin's products would be very helpful too.

I've done a bit of the research for you... Eneloop have a similar claim on this page and a place to ask further questions.
The original info I posted came from this site which seems to be people dealing with survival issues in extreme conditions.
Thanx for the info. The Eneloop specs are used in some other brands as well, for example Ansmann. It's a good system.
Too bad the article doesn't mention the mAh as that makes the comparism useless. If you put 900 mAh in a digital camera it surely won't even last 10 photos long. When talking like 2000 mAh the results will be very different though they won't last a 400 pics, which I do find hard to believe when using Eneloops.
Also what camera did they use for the testing as different brands drain the batteries differently?

and the characteristics of the charging unit, the ambient temperature, the time since charge... Battery testers at the candlepower forum seemed to have a difficult time comparing batteries because of the myriad of variables involved.
Everything that I read in my 1 hour excursion into the world of batteries supported two points which I can't independently verify; that LSD (I know, I know, I'm also a child of the 60's, in fact from the mid-Hudson Valley NY if that means anything to anybody ) LSD NiMH batteries are the hot topic among NiMH affectionados and also that Eneloops were mentioned regularly as the best of the current crop of LSD NiMH.

Since most rechargeables shouldn't be continuously plugged into a power source, it seems like I'll have to switch the charger in & out as needed.

Rat Shack seems to have a 2.3mm or 2.5mm adapters. No 2.35mm . Since Hans doesn't recommend the 2.5mm, should I try the 2.3mm? I'm just wondering if that difference will be a problem making sufficient connection to charge the batteries.
