For $200 and considering the equipment you already have, I would definately invest in a good headphone amp. And at 200 bucks, there are plenty to choose from.

especially with your music tastes, you should check out the MS-1 or the SR225s or definately before that buy the Koss KSC75s!!!

Bingo. I wouldn't worry about an amp yet. Take that two bones and invest in a decent Grado or something similar with good resale. Buy used, sell used. Do it right, and there won't be a loss.
That is a good way to go forward and build equity for this hobby. Plus, you're going to have to hear a Grado sooner or later to be considered a true head-fi'er!

Televators, if you are willing, go for the stax sr-001, its going to be a ridiculous step up, and its going to sound much better than that money can buy for you in the grado+amp setup, or even an amp for your k240s. Most people ignore this product, but most people also have not heard stax sr-001...
In short - try stax, they are aaaaawesome even at the low price-range, for any type of music.

Definitely an E-MU 0404 USB. The integrated headphone is decent sounding, and it has a very good DAC chip. It also has balanced outputs from the DAC which you can route to a balanced amp later on. Should also be a good match for the AKG 240s, which I've heard are a bit dark, because the amp in the 0404 is a little bright.

Doubt they will shame your AKGs lol, but there are some things they can do well.

I've heard the Grado S60, 80 and 325i for extended periods, both on SS and 2 different tube amps. None of them impress me one bit.
I'd go for Senns, AKGs, or Beyers before ever considering Grados. But that's just MY opinion.

I vote you save up $100 more and wait for an HF-1. Upgraditis eventually gets even the best of us, and it's not without a smack of regret and a couple of tears that we sell off the equipment that got us started. An HF-1 would not only be an awesome jump-start, it might just be a piece of equipment that you have good reason to hold onto forever.
