Help me find a perfect CD player...
I am looking for a perfect CD player for myself.
I have tried Marantz CC-4000 OSE and NAD T550, both hooked up to Corda HA-1 and used DT 931 and AKG 501. I spent half an hour on each with 5 - 6 track.
Marantz
Dislike:
Too layback - not dynamic enough
Resolution - missing detail, slow, mids and highs a bit too dark?...
Like
Bass - very very best bass, clear, spacious!, powerful, it just may not deep enough.
Liquidly - very musical, and smooth.
Image - very lovely 3D feeling, quite spacious even on headphones w/o xfeed.
Basically, I like the way NAD presents the music much more than Marantz, more forward, I enjoyed listen to NAD more, esp in a noisy store. NAD may has more details to me since it is brighter. However, I found Marantz is a better musical player to me overall.
If Marantz has a bit brighter mids and highs, more forward, cleaner sound yet still smooth (impossible?, AKG is very detail and smooth to me), it would be perfect to me.
When I listen to music, I like to get into the music, so I am complaining the layback and distant feeling from Marantz. Since I only have a brief test on both machines, feel free to correct me or give comment. I can spend around $500, I don't need the player has any extra beside playing one single redbook CD and a remote control. DVD, 5-disc, MD-out is nice, but not a must.
Any suggestions and comment? I may try out Sony ES later. Base on my preferences, which brand I should pay more attention? Thanks
