Default DHL warning

This is probably the wrong forum, but since it relates to DHL's handling of two separate amp-related shipments from SinglePower, I thought I'd put it here. First, DHL delivered my Extreme Platinum a week or so ago and left it sitting on my driveway in the rain! Our front porch is covered, and it could have easily been left there out of the elements. Fortunately, my wife came home before it really started to pour and got the package inside the house with no harm done.

But then, earlier today, they delivered a pair of 6528 tubes to my house. My wife was at home this time. According to my wife, who saw this from our living room window, the delivery lady pulled into our driveway, opened her door, halfway stepped out of the vehicle by placing one foot on the ground and leaving the other foot in the vehicle, and then proceeded to throw my package about 8-10 feet to the base of the garage door!!! She never attempted to ring the doorbell...crap, she never even got completely out of the vehicle!!

My wife called me at work to tell me this, so I haven't had a chance to get home yet to check and see if everything is alright with the tubes. My wife opened the package, and not surprisingly, everything was packed with "extreme" care (those guys are good), so maybe the 6528's survived the jolt. No way to know until I get home and plug them in.

Sheesh, I know DHL's fast, but that just plain stinks. I'd settle for a couple extra days of transit time if they'd just take care of my stuff.

One day someone will make a fast and reliable delivering company.

Once where all packages are treated with care, and are never lost or stolen, are delivered on time or earlier. Free tracking, and just as good if not better than UPS's tracking system.

. . . lol yeah right

I've had troubles with them aswell. Ordered some stuff from IKEA last year and one package was totally crushed with lots of broken glass in it due to their poor handling.

Fortunately, they don't deal with home deliveries of smaller packages, that's usually the local postal services so other stuff I've ordered have arrived just fine.

Good point, and maybe this is partly my responsibility. I believe (but I'm not totally sure) that by default, items are shipped uninsured from SinglePower via DHL. I was never offered an insured shipping option from SinglePower, but I'm guessing you could do that if you ask for it. I believe that insured shipments require a signature, but uninsured shipments do not.

Even if that DHL lady did not throw your package, they probably won't handle the packages with care when they sort/load/unload them...

No bias here.

I ordered a bathroom set and they just left it in my garden. Luckily i got home before the stuff was stolen. However, i phoned them to ask where my bathroom set was, pointed out the fact that no one had signed for the gear and it hasn't been delivered. To cut a long story short compensation changed hands and my brother has a nice new bathroom.

I asked my GFs dad about all this (he's some dude high atop the DHL ladder). He said the problem lies not in the company per say, but what you need to do is send complaints about your local delivery center. He said the station managers aren't doing thier jobs. The drivers get paid for each package they deliver, not like UPS where they just get a truckload and have to deliver it, so the DHL drivers make money per package.

You should send a complaint and complain against the station manager not reinforcing customer service and over workloading the drivers with packages to save on payroll. Complain about the station manager saying you went in to the station to do a pick-up, and say when you talked to the manager, he was a complete ass....that should get the problem recitified..>FAST. DHL corporate really frowns upon horrible customer relations, because it's such a small company by comparison here in the states.

I have heard stories about people receiving empty watch boxes that were missing some very nice watches. The boxes were taped back up but the watches were missing. There were several people complaining on one of the watch forums. I would avoid DHL.

Didn't realize this...good information. When I bought my D2000 several weeks ago from PriceJapan, I paid the extra for DHL shipping as I thought it would be better. They shipped EMS. At first I was a little ticked off about it, but then later (after hearing other DHL horror stories) realized they probably did me a favor!

DHL "lost" my laptop in transit . . . . . . (I hope their worker enjoys it)
but normally they have been very good in the past with deliveries I'v gotten through them.

Now UPS is another story, they've often pulled that "drop 'n run" routine with my stuff too. Fortunately they drop it in the lobby, but in an apartment there are other tenants who could easily pull a "grab 'n run".
Then of course I have spent the day waiting on a critical delivery only to find it sitting outside the door for hours (it only takes a second to ring the bell!)

It is too bad that you do not always have a choice in carrier.

I once had a UPS guy open the front door and throw the package in. I was on the toilet, the reason for not anwering the door and knowing what he did. I couldn't believe he would open the door and toss the package in. Well at least he didn't leave it outside. :^)
