Darkvoice figaro working properly?

Hi, im fairly new to the headphone game so forgive my ignorance!
I have just taken delivery of a Darkvoice figaro amp. Initially I was generally happy with the sound but after a few hours of warming up the bass has started to sound harsh and distorted under high volume, however the rest of the sound is great.
The weird thing is the higher the quality the mp3 or flac the WORSE it sounds, could it be my relatively new senns (650s) are still tight and cant handle the lowest frequencies yet?
My source is a X-fi prelude outputting ASIO in foobar.

p.s how high do I set the volume on the computer? If I turn the master down a bit some distortion disappears but them im left with no volume!
