Can you list headphone/amp combos that have good synergy?
I would like to see a full list of headphone/amp combinations that more experienced fellow headfiers here recommend.
Cheers,

Source is more important than amp, but I really like M^3 with DT880 or AKG501.
Also really like Meridian with any Grado/Alessandro.

Right, the source will most probably be the next gen ipod due next month assuming that its line-out is kept as it is. I am hoping that they use the audio processor from the ipod shuffle. Recently noticed it sounds better than bigger ipods. S'ppose, the sound of headphone out will be crucial when outdoors connected to EX71SLs unamped.

SR-71 with the Shure E5c and Sensaphonics 2X-S.
Better than the SuperMacro v2 with 627 opamps (IMHO), the HeadRoom Coda (the MicroAmp will have to be a lot better to match it), the AE-1, or, just based on brief meet impressions, the Hornet.
It's a bit early, but I'm pretty sure the AE-1 and Shure E4c have a great synergy. I'll have to test against my other amps, but I'd be surprised if they match the Shure E4c as well as the AE-1 does.
All of these impressions were using just the iPod lineout as a source.
Best regards,
-Jason

iAudio X5 headphone out (internal amplifier) => E4/C is the nicest simple synergy I've seen yet..

SR71 + MS1 is a good combo as well - a nice, warm, and lush synergy to a bright headphone. Awesome sound!

Thanks for the info guys, this is definitely turning interesting.
For future posters, I'd like to request you to add a small discription of the combo's sound signature as well.
Cheers,

I really like SM V3 w/AD797 or M^3 and MS-2, as well.
Any warm amp with the MS-2 makes good synergy.

For me, I think the Azur 640 C and Senn 650 (stock cable) is a good match for an entry level setup. Alot of life although at an expense of some finesse and tone of better cdps.
