That would be your setup for music listening.

But for movies, if you have an AVR that you want to use for dolby headphone or what not, you'd have to use a coax or optical connection from your PC/Video player to the AVR. The AVR could then be connected to your preamp.

On a somewhat related note, how does the sound quality of the dolby headphone feature on a receiver compare to the likes of the dolby headphone feature in software, like windvd? Is there a difference?

I haven't compared software dolby headphone with AV Receiver (hardware) dolby headphone. I don't like to switch the cables, but I should really have to compare it. I will compare it in couple of days, when my holiday starts. Good point!

I am absolutely sure there will be a difference. The AV receiver has a dac on its own which will do things better then software.

Correction: I compared the software Dolby Headphone (from Cyberlink Powerdvd) vs my Avr147 Receiver (hardware dac Dolby Headphone), and I must conclude that there ain't much difference at all! It's better for me also to skip the A/v receiver, because otherwise I end up with 2x preamps which could lead to degradation of the signal (sonics). So this means, I will sell my Harman Kardan Avr147 on eBay.

2) Stello MKII dac (finally use the best dac available in my audio inventory)

4) amp Red Wine Audio Signature 30.2
Routing a digital signal through equipment can degrade the signal amplitude and timing (degradation of the sound). I splitted up my gear into 2 rigs (signature):
