I've been wondering if there's an easy way to get a digital output using USB into my Lexicon RV-8 cinema reciever. It has SPDIF input.
I know of the existence of USB sound cards, but wondered if there was one that just provided a digital coaxial output that dumped a PCM/AC3/DTS bitstream straight into the SPDIF input of my Lexicon. Doesn't need any DAC capabilites at all, just needs to appear as a soundcard to windows really!
Any ideas? Or am I better off buying a PCI sound card like the 2496?
Many sound cards and some motherboards provide an spdif out. Most DACs can take either coax or optical. I have a creative labs card which 3.5mm digital out. I connect it to my lexicon MC12B using an RCA cable with a mini adapter on one end. I works great. Depending upon your sound card or motherboard you may need to turn oun the output and possibly disable the analog out but it is nice to use my processor to handle the d/a conversion.
