Default TBAAM: Sound distorts/noise at low volumes

Hi,

I have a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro USB sound card plugged into my laptop. It sounds great when hooked up to my home theatre or computer stereo setup.

However, when I plug in my Ultimate Ears Super Fi.5 EB, there is a faint bit of constant noise. But the biggest problem is that at low volumes, there appears to be some sort of digital-ish sounding distortion. This disappears at higher volumes. Does anyone have any ideas? Ive tried using the native Vista drivers for USB Audio Device, as well as the drivers supplied by Turtle Beach. The only way I am able to listen to music without this "digital distortion" is by using an in line attenuator with the iems.

But Im wondering if anyone has any other suggestions?
