Default Sound Blaster Audigy SE or Chaintech AV-710?

Basically I'm looking to upgrade from my terrible onboard AC97 sound, don't have much money but from what I know such an upgrade will be substantial from the AC97.

A friend recommended the Audigy SE, and I was already looking at the AV-710.
My listening rig is in my sig and I listen to everything from Country to Heavy Metal to Techno.

I'm not really interested in gaming options or any fancy drivers, I just want pure sound quality.
I just read this and it sorta pushed me further in considering the AV-710.

I believe the higher sampling rate of the AV-710 would further increase its quality?

Thanks for any information, it's appreciated.

Joseph

I havent heard the AV-710 but i am pretty sure it beats the Audigy SE when it comes to SQ (cause the SE = crap).

I vote for the AV-710.

I used to have a Live 24-bit, which sounded great when I first got it. I used it for a few years. Then when the X-Fi came out, I got the Extreme Music, which sounded a little better, but not by a whole lot, imo I used that for a couple years. Then I got the AV-710 since I'd been reading about it on here and had been curious, and imo, the AV-710 sounds better than the X-Fi. Since the Audigy SE from what I know sounds worse than the live, this should give you a good idea.

Keep in mind this is going to be subjective, but I can't see why anyone would pass up an AV-710 for any Audigy card. (it's only $20!)

I myself have the Av-710 and its working great. Only problem I have is the drivers, crappy! Once its setup you dont have to worry about it anymore. I would just go with the more popular card being the Av-710. You'll have tons of forum support because so many people have it.
I believe the higher sampling rate of the AV-710 would further increase its quality?
I myself dont upsample, just straight 44.1khz. Though, I would imagine upscaling audio would be the same as upscaling dvd's.

Okay thanks guys, looks like I'll definitely go with the AV-710 and do the whole thing where you use the alt-line out.
