Hey.
I am trying to use Exact Audio Copy with the LAME encoder which I downloaded from http://mitiok.cjb.net/. I am using version 3.96.1. My problem is that in the EAC compression options, I have set it to rip at 320 kBit/s. But when I go play the mp3 file, Windows media player only says it is playing at 187kbits/s. What is going wrong? I want to rip the songs at a high quality, but not lossless. Could someone please help me out?
Sounds like you should be using altpreset insane. Do a web search to make sure of the exact spelling and then double check to make sure you have it typed right in EAC.
Hi, I'm a music guy but not fluent in computer-speak. So, you may already be ahead of me but--there is an article re: EAC use at 6moons.com that talks about various settings, etc.
I agree that it sounds like you're using variable bitrate(VBR). Nice thing about it is that you'll use a higher bitrate when it's needed for more complex sections of the music while saving space/file size by using a lower bitrate for less complex portions. You get the best sound/file size. FWIW, the last I heard was that LAME 3.90.3 was considered to be the more popular version due to stability. Haven't checked recently so that may have changed. It's the version I use presently.
