Default Recommendation for decent soundcard, gaming/entertainment

Hi guys, currently I'm using the onboard sound and a cheapo surround sound setup.

Front speakers: ATP3 Altec Lansing

Back speakers: ****ty Sonic gear evo 3

It is decent, but I am looking forward to getting a good 5.1 or 4.1 surround sound system to enhance my movie/anime/gaming experience. (of course, MUSIC too!)

And I want a soundcard that can upscale from a stereo source (mp3) to surround sound (speaker fill), which is what my current onboard sound is doing. I'm using Vista as well.

Thanks for reading!

you don't wanna move your sub off of the table ?

plus, your surrounds have hf drivers, wouldn't you wanna try them as fronts and move those atp's to the rear ?

It takes up too much space.. the sub has been on the table for ages (3 years), not much vibration or anything. Thanks for the advice, when I get a new speaker system it's gonna go on the floor!

So you want the best for "gaming" and "music?" Well nothing can beat the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude.

I have a X-Fi Platinum Fatality.
The one that comes with remote and I/O bay.
Good stuff for gaming and music.

rear channel under the bed and sub on the desk!!

thanks, you made my morning youngster.

if you want way better sound get some headphones. the way you are set up and the speakers that you are using just will not deliver. not trying to diss you or what not but yeah, make a change.

All Room on ebay is your best bet for a really small 5.1 for around $300. It will give you entry level sound but it is way better than what you have now.

I'll second the X-Fi... it doesn't even have to be a particularly good one. If you can still find the Xtreme Music it's not got some of the bells and whistles, but it's reasonable as far as audio quality (and was 50$ the last time I saw it).

I needa learn speaker placement 101!
I noticed, the rear sub would vibrate with the bed, which resulted in really ****ty sound. So I turned the rear sub off. >_>

Oh and I'm going to check out X-fi =)
