Default New rig questions.

Hello, I have been into headphones for a couple years now but I am just now starting to look into upgrading my main source, the computer. My files are mainly 192kbps AAC. Right now I am looking at the EMU 0404 usb or pci and the M-Audio Audiophile USB. Which one would better suit my needs. BTW it will be going to a preamp for my speakers and a portable amp TBA.

Also would having the setup go TBAAM - TOSlink - emu0404usb or m-audio audiophile usb have better sound quality than just connecting the DACs connected by USB.

Or just reccomend a system up to an amp thats 200$ MAX.

Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry I sound like such a noob. But please help!

The usb won't be worse quality and may be better. Usualy what happens is the usb if converted to spdif which would result in same quality. But sometimes it's converted into i2s which is a much better standard. As for usb audio it's posibly the best standard for transmision of digital audio available but all the native DAC's are pretty middling quality (hence to conversion to spdif or i2s). Can't help you on the cards apart from the 0404 is very well regarded here.

Thank you. So Which would sound the best going to a portable amp, an emu 0404 usb or PCI, M-audio audiophile usb.

Also, I found this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812162001. Its only $25 so I was wondering the quality of it compared to the others products I am looking at.

Thanks!

A $25 DAC. Yeah, I'd stay as far away from that as you possibly can.

At the moment, I'm going for the cheap option...

Keeping my existing USB DAC, but re-ripping all of my CDs to 320kbps.

Isn't that silverstone the one that some people really liked as a cheap DAC solution? That's such a good deal. The black version is $90.00. Do a search on head-fi, it gets a bit of praise.

Edit: Except it's out of stock .

Okay, thanks ill do a bit of research. Why is the black one $90 when the silver one is $25? I saw both and couldnt figure out the difference from the website.
