Default Motherboard SPDIF connection, coax or optical?

I know the debate for coax vs optical is endless so I'm not trying to ask that as a general question. My question takes into account that I'll be using the motherboard SPDIF out connector, with no anti-jitter devices inbetween. I'm wondering that taking into account that that is probably not the most ideal conditions, is coax still a better choice than optical? I have only tried coax solutions so far, and the whole deal about impedance matching and how it's almost impossible with an RCA type connector has got me thinking whether optical would be a better choice. I've read a little bit about optical connections, and that there was some problems initially with jitter, but with the age we are in now that sounds like it is a non-issue.

I've always heard that coax is the optimal connection, but that probably hypothesizes the use of an "optimal" transport, etc. (ideal conditions coax is better, sorta deal). I don't want this to turn into flames and war, so if we could keep the responses civil and insightful that would be great!

Thanks in advance!

NOTE: I'm using a Gigabyte P35 mobo, with the ALC889A chip that is able to deliver up to 24/192 and is bit-perfect.

Optical - no humming or interference, but seems fragile, connectors are not as tight as RCA, either it works or it doesn't
Coax - some claim it sounds better, could be just placebo

Why not try them both?
