Well, what is the price difference out there in .au? And do you think that you're a person that will be reading about op-amps in the forums, hunting them down to buy and cracking open your case to swap them out? Or are you less of a DIY person and more interested in ease of use?

Also, you can get an integrated USB ADC+amp cheaply if you look carefully, but in terms of a low-budget approach to quality PC audio, I think you're looking in the right place.

As far as a stereo only pci sound card the Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 looks hard to beat...Add in the headphone amp and rollable op-amps and I dont think you could beat it with a bat.

But for a headphone only solution it would seem that an inexpensive USB DAC/headphone amp would be the way to go.

LOL...Now you guys have me thinking again...And that is a dangerous thing.

Hummm...USB DAC/Headphone amp.

www.google here I come !!!!!!

Well since you are in Melbourne chances are you can find one there.

I would certainly try to find one versus buying the M-Audio.

I have owned the 7.1 and the 5.1's and they are sweet sounding cards...Never used them for headphones...But great sounding cards.

For your paticular application the Audiotrak seems to be the better solution.

Besides...You can addicted to the "rolling op-amp syndrome"

just a quick update. finally got my ATH-AD900 and Revo 5.1 i think both makes a great starting combination for my quest into a better listening experience!

but i found the M-Audio driver to be abit quirky.. tried to install VIA envy driver from viaarena but it didnt work...

anyone knows anything abt this...?

M-Audio recently released a new driver for Revo 5.1 which is XP and Vista compatible and has some fixes for earlier driver problems.

yep.. that's exactly what i am using... but still buggy.. and i found the driver to be exactly the same with the one on the cd that came with the card.. only with added vista compatibility.........

I tried the new revo 5.1 driver and is damned buggy that reverted to the old driver.

Used to own one, and the thing that annoyed me was that all outputs weren't active simultaneously (e.g. you have to go into software control panel to switch from analog outputs to digital output).
