Just wondering how is the headphone jack on the Logitech Z-5500
I am going to buy these computer speakers I am just wondering since i am going to use Digital Optical & Coaxial for my computer and TV, if it would come close to a receiver or at least get rid of the noise that you get from connecting strait from the sound card. For now I have a sound blaster Live! and soon will be getting Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Sound Card later in the future. I don't have much money so I can't afford a receiver and speaker set.
In general, the headphone jacks in computer speaker sets are not great, but passable. The noise you hear from the sound card is probably due to the SB Live! card itself, and might go away when you upgrade.
I was thinking cuz since now I am going to use digital to the speakers then use the headphone jack on the speakers maybe but maybe it will be a bit better. I am still quite a noob so I am guessing.
Nah, sound quality is worst, everything gets muddy. I had a set of z5500 then sold them off.
I have noticed that the headphone jack on the Z-5500's is just fine. No extra noise. Although is it not powerful enough to drive my DT770's so I use my amp with it. I find that strange because my X-Fi card can drive the cans just fine.

The z5500 headphone jack is barely passable. Its probably not so much the jack, but the signal circuitry. The DAC in the z5500 is just ok for gaming, but forget about "sound quality"
Having said that, the logitech speaker setup is totally fun with the Xbox 360 and the PS3

The amp that comes with the Z5500 is really low end.
1. It's THD while measuring RMS is rated 10% @ 1khz. This would make someone wonder what the THD % then becomes at Max wattage.
2. Amp has a SNR of 93.5db which to me is bad
3. I believe all the sats are being controlled off a poorly crossover within the 1 amplifier of the sub which is sharing the total wattage.
Alot of the poor quality comes from mainly this amp. I would just use it for the sub since its a decent 10". I hooked up the sats to my Yamaha RX-V559 and they sound totally different.
Here is my thought. For the price I paid which was $200 for Z5500, I think it was great. I would use the 5 speakers and sub and remotly control it through its receiver. I then would buy an entry level reciever which would be a Pioneer VSX-518v $200 and use that to power the 5 speakers.
All in all that would be $400 for a great 5.1 system with tiny speakers. There is a creative pc speaker system that each speakers has a tiny tweeter which perhaps is alot better since it separates the sound wave. I think the cost wasn't that much higher in total. I would have invested in that if I knew about it sooner but, I'm greatly happy with what I got.
I don't think there are that many 'small' speaker setup 5.1 systems. Alot of Home Theater in a Box setups just aren't as small. Bose systems would be a great competitor since it's about the same quality because it also has all sounds coming out of 1 speaker but, they are simply marketed too high.
