Itunes and Scratchy/choppy Sound

when itunes was first installed i didn't have this problem. hadn't used itunes for awhile since i had foobar installed. now, only itunes has this issue of scratchy/choppy sound while foobar, winamp, real player and windows media player don't. quicktime seems to have same issue also

checked for drivers conflicts, didn't see any.

anyone has had this problem and how to go about to solve it?
