Front-panel audio gone when enabling KS.
OK, I've got an AV-710 and I've just gotten it set up to use the high-quality outputs on the black jack. So far so good.
Then I tried to get ASIO4All working and for some reason, it doesn't want to play nice with the Envy24 chipset. Says it's "unavailable." Oh, well, no worries as I got kernel streaming set up in Foobar 2000, and it sounds great, at least through speakers.
Problem is, as soon as I turn on the KS, I lose my front-panel jack which is where I had been plugging in my Grado SR60s. The normal "green" line-out on the back of the AV-710 is also silent at this point.
As an aside, if I then try moving from KS back to DirectSound, I get silence out of both the black jack and the front audio. DS had worked before I enabled KS, but the process of enabling KS seems to make going back to DS impossible, until I reboot, then it works.
Don't really care much about this last bit, but I would like to get that front-panel headphone jack working again!
Any ideas? Is there some reason why using KS would cause the AV-710 to shut off the front-panel audio?
tia,
John

Unfortunately, that's just how the AV-710 works. Switching between the front and rear outputs is buggy, and KS/ASIO can only deliver to one output.

Well, after lots of trial and error, and searching all over the net, I finally figured out that I needed to create a new entry in the registry to restore the My Music folder.
Now I'm having another problem. I got itunes w/MM to work the first time I installed it, and it played just fine through foo & the KS, BUT, the next time I tried to use it, I got nothing -- Windows Task Manager Processes list shows foobar chewing up a bunch of CPU resources, but it won't open after closing itunes (which also still shows in the processes list, even though I closed the program before trying to open foobar -- I'm guessing that might be the problem...). Then itunes won't reopen. And all the while no music! When I try to shut down the computer I get a bunch of programs that won't close, with undecipherable or cryptic names (the only one that stuck with me was "uninteresting" -- another had a bunch of strange characters for the name, but had an itunes icon). So I (eventually) restart, and turn off the foobar pass-through setting in MM -- itunes will play directly, but not through foobar. Restart again, and foobar plays just fine, through KS as directed. But they won't play nice together!
This problem is mentioned in the forum where the itunes/MM link is posted, but no answers/solutions have been posted there. Has anyone else had (and solved) this problem?
SO I guess I'm back to foobar for now. Bummer, cuz this trick really had me excited (I have been completely unable to master the task of making foobar look presentable, let alone usable).

I am also using a SigmaTel Audio card, and I am also having problems adjusting it's settings. I think I figured out how to do it (control panel>sounds and audio devices>audio tab>"advanced" on sound playback>performace), but the problem is the settings are not labled with numbers, only "good|---|---|best" where you can move the dial to adjust.
Has anyone been succesful at doing this with a SigmaTel?

That's not a problem--that's how it looks for everyone who uses Windows. If you want the best sound quality, drag the slider over to "Best."

The problem is matching the "Good Better Best" to the 48000 hz and 24-bit numbers suggested by the OP. Whenever I try to play a song I get that "Unrecoverable playback error:..." message that another post had problems with. I've been trying to match it with trial and error and still haven't had any luck.

Similar issues.
If I use ASIO driver, it won't play out of itunes. It will only play the selection qued in the foobar selection. The ASIO lists the Realtek audio channels. Not the ASIO channels. They list as not available.
If I use Realtek KS, I get Unrecoverable playback error: KS output error: error opening device in foobar and nothing out of itunes.
The only way itunes will play is selecting DS Realtek. The volume control works in itunes but not the eq. I thought the foobar passthrough disabled the itunes functions.
Experienced please advise!

When in doubt, try it without resampling. I wish aestuo would change the original post:
Step 2 is Optional!
Resampling is not required for all cards, and is detrimental to quite a few. In the case of onboard Realtek that adheres to the AC'97 specification and not the Intel HD Audio spec, resampling to 48 kHz is a good idea. However, it should still work without resampling.
I've never seen onboard audio drivers that specify sample rate, so don't expect to see bit-rate and sample rate in your drivers (the OP was looking at drivers for a Creative sound card).

On a different note, is there anyway to play FLAC files in iTunes?

I had similar issues with Realtek AC'97.
The KS:Realtek option produced no audio output from iTunes. When switching it to the DS:Realtek option, I then got audio output from iTunes.
Thanks to the OP for the guide!

No, it's not necessary in that case. 48 kHz resampling should only be used with older Creative sound cards (ex. Live!, Audigy) and onboard sound (ex. AC'97).

I tried this last night, and if I used the "Secret Rabbit Code" it started going crazy and skipping and what not. Ideas?

Help me! Where is my Juli@ program for changing to 48K?
I 'think' its set to automatically change, but I'm not sure.
Found it, although I don't know how. The ESI icon popped up on my taskbar. It was on 'Auto', but for some reason it stayed at 44K when playing.
Time to change sig...

Resampling takes serious processing power; your computer might not be fast enough to use it.

It's not necessary (actually, it's bad) to resample to 48 kHz with the Juli@ because it runs at native 44.1 kHz, which is what it was doing.
Resampling to 48 kHz is not always necessary.
Can't say this enough.
