One set-up advice, you'd want to elevate the speakers off the desk about a foot or so for best sound. You can also try tilting it, the idea is to avoid those first reflections from the desk ruining the soundstage.

leoftw, with your current setup, you'll only be able to use two speakers: left and right. Your PC's onboard audio only has stereo output, not surround output.

I think that if you're at all concerned about space and quality, you should go with a 2.1 computer system like the X-230 or better.

Stick with the Kenwood and go get yourself some nice used bookshelf speakers. Look around at pawn shops or thrifts stores and try to find some good condition Polk Audio or Infinity. Of course do your research and make sure you aren't overpaying on whatever you find. I have always been hardly impressed with computer speaker systems. Nice and compact but if something messes up you usually have to replace everything, and with the Receiver and nice speakers you will get upgraditis its a fun disease.

Well I hooked up the amp it only works through the "audio" channel not the dvd channel , I configured it to be a 2.0 system in the Realtek Control Panel and it sound great . I mean great , it makes my whole house shake :P

here is what I ended up doing

I hope for this to be a temporary solution. 5 speakers hooked up in total 2 around the desk 2 on the desk 1 under the desk if you look closely

Looks nice and tidy..

I'm in the same situation as you and didn't think of putting the monitor on top of the amp.

Since there's no side vents for the receiver, I don't think it's a good idea to stack the monitor on top of the receiver.
