I picked up this Kenwood Amp & 4 Speakers for free ? Can I hook it up to my PC ?
My Dad gave me this system , it was his home system but he bought a new one.
It has two small speakers one small center speaker (not pictured) and two huge speakers (not pictured) , a amp and wires . They work fine but is it worth it hooking up to my PC , i currently have that cheapo logitech flat panel speaker .
I was going to buy a logitech x-230 but I think this was way better. The two tall speakers would have to be only one and I would have to make a custom box. They are about 3 1/2 Feet tall and about 10" subs . I just want something that looks nice. I like who the small speakers look. I could put the center one in the middle where the logitech one goes and separate the other two further apart. The bass could go under my desk but I need to find a way to hook this up to my PC.
Use a Y-Adapter to connect your computer's 3.5mm sound card jack to the receiver, connect the two RCAs to CD. In use, switch the input to CD to receiver signals from the computer.
Or get a USB DAC, that will convert your sound signals to surround sound and you can connect that to all the 6 RCA DVD surround sound connections on the receiver.
Can you provide any information on the Kenwood speakers? Well, you should just stick with the Kenwood speakers since they are towards the design for home theater which would mean that they are better than some crappy 15W RMS speakers.
Peak power and impedance mean little to overall quality...in any event, I doubt there will be a huge difference in terms of mids and highs. If the kenwood's have some decent size woofers, they will be more bass heavy (8"+).
If this was your dads system, then you should already know how it sounds. Can you live with it? If so, you'll be saving yourself some money to invest elsewhere.
