I can't really tell the difference between the three formats you have as all of them offer pretty good music details and clarity. My vote will probably go to the lossless format as larger file size means more data means better music quality?
How about ripping a few songs in all three formats and do some A/B testing? Then decide which one you prefer.
I think lossless files are typically 3 times larger than a 320 mp3 file.
Hope it helps

My vote would be for lossless. It's getting so cheap to store them lossless, that the amount of work needed to rip everything all over again just isn't worth it anymore.
On average, I see FLAC's size being 50-60% of the original for badly recorded songs, and 65-70+% for good ones.
Go lossless - storage is cheap. It will just get cheaper and bigger in the future.
Also consider that you will add more music over time. If you start ripping lossless now, that's less you'll have to rip lossless in the future.

I wouldn't take an intermediate step to 320. I recommend going to at least lossless. I would rip a few albums that you are very familiar with in ALAC then listen to both versions for a while. Don't make a quick decision based on one listening session or one A/B session. Spend some time on this one. If you think the difference is big enough for you then re-rip all your stuff. If not then you are already good to go.
Agree with the posts above. I have all my collection in 320 right now. Got a new drive like yours and I am in the process of redoing it in ALAC format. my plan is then to buy an iTV (like Skylab did), and then connect it to me stereo system and voila! will have all my music in CD quality (and all artwork) available on my TV screen.
unless u have a very good soundcard or Headphones...320kbps is good enough.
try converting 2 similar songs into 320 & Lossless ..then try listening and telling the difference...if u cant then 320kbps mp3 is good for u.
advantage of mp3 files is that they can be easily used on lot of platforms & players

lossless is the way to go... depending on the album you can get a wide range of compression ratios... old mono recordings will give better compression ratios i've got a CD of django reinhardt recordings that compressed to a hair over 20% of the original size
the advantage of lossless is it can be transcoded to ANY format for portable players
