Other than the audioengine being on the bottom of the speaker they look just like the photo's on audioengines site.

Oh well, I guess they are still better than white. I have a mac, but it's silver, not white. Although the white ones probably don't have that stupid logo. I guess I could exchange them for the white ones if I don't like them.

LOL...I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think they look bad ass...Add to that the way they sound and it is a win-win situation.

One thing for sure...If you do not like the way they look audioengine will let you return them.

If you dont like the way they look I would not even bother opening the box's and ship em back.

Great guys to do business with.

I'm quite new to this whole audophile world and my ears aren't very sharp/distinguishing (yes I know I registered 4 years ago lol), but one thing I do know is that my A5s sound AMAZING. My only other audio setup is my UM-2/Predator combination, and I think the A5s sound far, far better than this setup (can't pinpoint why).

How much would I stand to gain over the A5 sound if I were to spend good money for a solid headphone setup? Your opinions would be key to whether or not I decide to shell out $1000-2000 for a good headphone setup .
Don't really want to clutter the forum with a new post for this - any A5 owners care to comment? Please!!

I am not an owner of the A5's...Not yet...They are coming...But not yet.

But it would seem impossible to my way of thinking that any computer as source system that consist of either a sound card/T-amp/DAC A5 solution could hang with a 1k-2k headphone setup.

I love headphones...I am kinda of ashamed to comment on what I own, but to me they sound awesome.

I have a decent Home Theatre System...Yamaha/Polk Audio and find myself watching movies wearing my headphones more often than not...Especially if I am viewing by myself.

Funny...I do not give much thought to cranking the music in my computer room...But have resevations about watching movies with the volume cranked up on my home theatre system.

But I personally think that it would be impossible for even a low end headphone setup not to demolish a sound card/DAC-T-amp, speaker solution for sound quality.

Headphones and speakers are two different animals. SQ-wise headphones generally offer more bang-for-the-buck, but it should really come down to what you prefer. You could have your speakers for general listening and get a nice headphone set up for reference listening or night time listening. But you can't really compare a headphone setup and a speaker setup because they just won't ever sound alike. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I put a lot of money into a nice headphone setup, but found that I preferred listening to my cheap speakers. So I decided that my money was better spent with speakers. To me, it's more about what I will use more often to listen to music rather than how it sounds, although I definitely like it to sound good. I'm getting a nice pair of speakers for home use, I just bought a pair of A2's for my computer, and I have a pair of UE-10 earphones for portable use.

I wonder how the M-Audio BX5a compare to the AudioEngine A2. Looks like they are both $200 right now.

Does not look like any kind of comparision to...The M-Aduio BX5a's look to be better in just about any concievable comparision.

Bigger woofer, higer powered bi-amped amplifier, more versitle connectivity...They are a name brand with almost instant name recognition.

Looks like a no-brainer to me...Guy linked me to sweetwater's "active speaker" section and it was mind numbing to say the very least.

Howdy,
I ordered the M-Audio BX5a's, last night, they'll get here in week. I will be sure to post impressions here in this thread.

This is a case of an older product being cosed out and so available at a great price you wouldn't ordinarily see. I got these $400 speakers for $210 shipped. How can you refuse a deal like that?

I thought long and hard about the Audioengine A5's, but they were just too expensive for what I need. Mabe the BX5a'a will be good enough at a much lower price.
