Default How to reduce noise

Hello all,
My computer case in the coolermaster stacker and I have every spot to put a fan filled with vantec stealths. My power supply is the pc power and cooling 750 watter. My cpu fan is the stock intel clip on fan. My video card is the nvidia 8800gtx by PNY. MY motherboard is the EVGA nvidia 680i SLI.

As in my sig my main phones are the k701 and I find the fan noise UNBEARABLE. I turned down the cpu fan to 53% speed and hold a constant sub 60celsius cpu temp. My chassis fans are on a fan controller and are all quiest because they are the stealths. The fans that is toubling me is the power supply fan.

What are you all doing to minimize the horrible fan sounds?

Dave

UPDATE: I unplugged that horrible little fan and the noise dropped considerably. Now how about the PS? any ideas on the noise reduction from that?

To begin, use an after market CPU heat sink - check out Silent PC for more advice. Be sure to check out forums as well, some will teach you how to mod your PC to make it more quiet.

It is imperative that you START off with quiet components - once you are stuck with loud parts, all you can do is tweak and mod . . .

Replace all fans with low noise 120mm fans, that'll create a nice airflow.
Replace the PSU with a Zalman, they create very little noise.
Replace the CPU fan with an aftermarket cooler, i.e. Scythe Infinity.
Replace the GPU fan with an aftermarket cooler, i.e. Arctic Cooling Accelero S1.
Do all this and you'll be a few bucks lighter, but your PC will be cooler (prolonging it's lifetime) and quieter

I actually went ahead and swapped out the cpu fan with an asus square i had laying around, very quiet. I also swapped out the remaining coolermaster fans with stealths.
Turned down the fan on the gpu and its running pretty darn quietly.

Thanks for the advice tho,
Dave

I use Scythe sleeve type fans. That's what made the most difference for me.

I use an antec p180 case, PC power and cooling 750, 3 scythe fans, and a zalman 9500.
