Help Choose a product for me?

Hey guys. Im sorry for this, as there are tonnes of recommendations threads.

OK, basically Im confused. I just found out that my laptop's sound card is crap. Now I need a product to help boost the sound quality.

Equipment:
Laptop
ATH-A700

I dont believe these headphones need an amp, heck, thats why I bought them. The problem is that at high volumes, the sound (mainly trebles) distorts.

Im assuming a DAC is going to be recommended. Im looking to spend ~$100 if possible.

Hmm good things said about the edirol.. however it doesnt have 3d sound according to a reviewer. This seems like a major flaw for gaming. Im assuming you can have either 3d sound or high quality, either or, at this price?
