Thanks. My cMoyBB drove my HD580 so loud I had to turn it down for fear of damaging my cans. This was the case too with my vintage amps. However, my Headfive was the most expensive of the amps I've owned, and it barely drove my HD580 to loud levels and not nearly loud enough for me.

Would like to point out here that I am not equating loud and quality. My Headfive drove my HD580 with more quality than anything I've owned except for my current HotUSB1, but the volume of the Headfive was insufficient. My HotUSB1 amp drives my HD580 better than any amp I've had (quality), but the volume (loud) is still insufficient. I can imagine it working quite well with easier to drive cans.

It must be your source which has got a low volume. I tried Zero DAC -> Headfive -> HD650 and at 2 a clock, it measured 100 dB (with a db meter). Thats 2 a clock only. This is much much much higher than safe.

Yes, that is way too loud. Back then I was using an AV710 with the Headfive. Shame to think I sold it because I had the volume on my PC turned down. Don't think that was likely though since I'd been long familiar with its operation. I heard no complaint from the Head-Fier who bought my Headfive so it must have worked OK. But I do recall reading others with the Headfive who did not consider it a particularly loud amp.

If all you want is loud the Lyris pro will do very well. As far as quality goes it wasn't much better then my PC's headphone out with my HD580s.

Really? I don't recall reading other findings like this.

I posted this thread when only my HotUSB1 was driving my HD580, and I wanted something to drive them better and louder.

I get better quality than my PC output with my HotUSB1 > HD580, but I could not get the higher volumes I wanted. I then took my HD580 to another level and with loud enough volumes with the addition of a uAMP107B like this: HotUSB1 > uAMP107B > HD580.

I see my explanation of the uAmp107B's inadequecies didn't change your opinion. I guess you don't hear the clipping. It's quite easy to pick out.

Try to take an RMAA test with the uAmp107B, if you need pictures.
