Let me first say that I love my EMU 1212M. It will blue screen my computer just about every other time I boot it. Sometimes my audio will stop working and I have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. It's gotten to the point where I have a shortcut on my desktop to the driver installer.
I've tried it in a different computer and it will blue screen it during the driver install.
Now I'm looking for a replacement. I don't like Creative and I refuse to support them in anyway.
After searching the forums it looks like some likely candidates are the ESI juli@ and M-Audio Audiophile 2496. Suggestions? Comments? Input?

I've been using a Juli@ on a Win XP system for nearly 2 years with the J. River Media center player. Zero problems with ASIO, WaveOut or DirectSound interfaces. Easy driver install without a big load of unwanted applications and bloated drivers. I'm happy with the sound using the unbalanced analog output.
I've ordered a Audiotrak Prodigy H2 soundcard (also made by ESI) for use as a second soundcard. It uses a newer AKM DAC chip than the one in the Juli@ but lacks the balanced analog output. It has ASIO support in the driver. At $ 75, it seems an easy choice for me.
ESI has a forum.
Look around for posts on M-Audio driver problems.
If you will be using this soundcard with Vista, be sure that the soundcard manufacturer has good Vista drivers.
You understand the relationship between EMU and Creative right? Just that you seem very stern about not supporting Creative...
That aside, maybe you could post more about the problems you are having with the 1212m. As much info as possible will help - I'm sure you've tried alot already, but unless there is a problem with the card itself you really shouldn't be having this problem. Could be a hardware of software conflict, insufficent power supply, driver issue...
Best of luck sorting something out - I know I'd be sick of it!
Yes I understand the relationship, which is why my next card won't be another EMU 1212M.
My system consits of what I consider quality parts: Athlon X2 3800+, Asus mobo, mushkin ram, EVGA geforce 8800 gts, Corsair TX650W Power Supply, Logitech Mouse, IBM Clicky Keyboard, Dell Monitor, WD Raptor, WD SE16 HD
It's most certainly a hardware issue. I've installed multiple versions of the driver and got the sample problem. I've reformatted my computer multiple times and got the same problem.
Here's a more detailed daily routine:
I wake up and turn on my computer, blue screen. 0x00000009c (0x00000004, 0x805461f0, 0xb2000000...) or something. I then push the reset button and it will go into windows and it will work. I then turn my computer off and leave for a good number of hours. I turn it on and it blue screens like it does in the morning. I then push the reset and it will work. However sometimes sound won't come out and I have to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them. After a few restarts it works again. I've been doing this for a good number of years now.
I've tried it in a different computers and it blue screens when installing the drivers it will blue screen.
I believe this is the first generator of EMU 1212M.
PS: Windows XP SP2
