honestly you'd get $1500 or less, and I don't care how much it cost you, ebay is a cold, desolate place
see, I asked that too, and he's either just ignoring it, or doesn't know what we're asking, or its a different issue but because system specs are a tightly guarded national secret, you gotta pry them out one at a time with the jaws of life, so its pretty painful to sit and troubleshoot this

As I've already said before

I've gotten the most recent updates for everything concerning my motherboard. Unless there is some dust or something in the wrong place, even then, that shouldn't be the problem.

What is your average latency on DPC?

This is what my latency looks like:

Have you installed the newest drivers (not the one supplied on the cd)? Be sure its plugged in its own usb port not hub

Yes and yes.
Yeah, the latency doesn't look too bad there. But in game it can be pretty annoying. Is it just more noticeable because I have studio monitors?
Also, I seemed to have made it a little better by switching which USB port it was plugged into and dusting some things up. It is definitely more playable now than before, but still pretty annoying.

is it possible for you to try using the optical in for the 0404?
i recall having dvd crackling noises when i used the USB... but no major problems with the optical in, other than a small delay lag when changing songs.

your latency looks fine in that ss man, x2 what uraflit said about trying optical
are you using ASIO (like forcing it enabled with games)? if so, try raising the buffer delay a bit

Nah, I don't use ASIO. Do you mean an optical cable from the motherboard audio to the 0404? Because I've already tried that to no avail. Do you suggest getting another sound card with an optical connection and trying that?

well, it shouldn't be doing what its doing, is the point, if you're connecting S/PDIF TOS or coax from the mainboard's sound to the 0404, with USB disconnected, that would help us see if USB is the issue with latency
however if the USB doesn't make a difference on it being choppy, the only other "common" piece is the 0404, might be a faulty unit, try the onboard sound with the 0404 entirely removed, is it still choppy?

Yeah, it's even worse when I have the USB disconnected. And even worse than that when it's just the onboard sound. Do you think I should try and send it in?

I gave up on my 0404 with a Dell computer with Vista Premium. I tried reinstalling everything with the latest drivers and for some reason, the 0404 was either unstable or choppy. It just would not play nice with my system. I decided to use it as a mic amp, and that's it.

Hm, maybe I should just sell it then. Is there something else that I should be looking at that I could plug my studio monitor into?

Try setting the processor scheduling to adjust for best performance of background services rather than programs.
In Vista that setting is in:
Control Panel >> System >> Advanced system settings
That gets you to the Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog
Click on Settings... under Performance
Go to the Advanced tab and select "Background services"
Try that and see if it helps.
There is a general guide for optimizing a computer for digital recording
Optimizing Your System, Improving Performance and Managing Latency
It's more oriented to optimizing a computer used in a studio. But some of the tips will still apply.
