I am so happy being in europe so that I can pay a lot more for this. But the 0404 is out of stock here so I might not get the one I ordered.

I've been stalking the 0404 for some time now and this is the best deal I've seen yet. I once was convinced the 0404 was for me, and that it perhaps was the best solution this side of a $500 purchase, which I've been desperately trying to avoid. But as I continued to follow posts about the 0404 while waiting for low pricing like this to come around, I increasingly became convinced the 0404 would not likely give me the type of sound I would like with my HD580, with or without a separate amp. And that's totally frustrated my quest to replace my SoundBlaster Live! card, which I've not been completely dissatisfied with for some time now.

And then my solution came to me after reading this thread about a low priced USB DAC/amp combo being sold on eBay by hotaudio40. Here is a link to that same DAC/amp combo on eBay. Considering its low price (low risk) and the positive posts about it, I figured it at least has to be better than my SoundBlaster Live! card and quite likely would be better than any similarly priced sound card. So I bought one. Hopefully I will like it. We'll see. I expect to receive it in a week or so.

By the way, I'm not trying to berate the 0404 or scare anyone away from buying one; I've never even owned one. I just know there are others like me who are looking for this type of audio solution, and I wanted to share mine.

Curious, what did you read that led you to that conviction?

I'm interested your views on the 0404 as well, as I just bought a 0404 not long ago (still waiting for it to arrive). Please also give us your impressions on the HotAudio DAC when you recieve it! seems like a nice little dac for the price.

I've read too many posts in various threads over the months to adequately encapsulate what's transformed my blind opinion of the 0404. I wish I could be more help than that to you and other readers here. However, I prefer not attempting to do so out of fear I may negatively influence those who potentially could benefit from using the 0404.

1Time, that is a ridiculous response! Folks here have enough sense to way out opinions of others. Just go ahead and post what you have heard, and let us be the judge!

I will be glad to post my impressions of the HotAudio DAC/amp in a couple weeks or so.

To the contrary, it's absurd of you to suggest I implied Head-Fi'ers don't have enough sense to weigh out opinions of others. My post was both thoughtful and considerate. There are plenty of opinions available to weigh out. Simply search "0404" and there you go, the same ones I read.
