I find my UE-10's to be a "lesser of all evils" headphone. In other words, all components have perks and flaws, and taking everything into consideration, the 10's would be my choice in the "if you could bring only one headphone to a desert island" decision.
Of course it's not fair of me, because I can only describe the 11's, hearing them in a non-custom configuration, but that being the case, I would still pick the 10's.

BTW- Mark my words. Do not sell the ESW-9's to fund the 10's/11's. Find another component, but the AT's are a keeper for life. They are unique, sound wonderful (especially in the portable realm), made of quality materials, will probably have a short production stint, and you will most likely have seller's remorse somewhere down the line.
IMHO, they are one of the "keepers for life". It's just not worth selling them.
YMMV, but I doubt it
Damn, that good? Actually comparable sonically to the UE-10 Pro? I've struggled long and hard trying to find another portable non-custom-IEM headphone that can even come close to, never mind match, the ES2, and no cigar.

But, now that I've slammed the car door on my ES2 for the second time, I'm wondering if an ESW9 is a good idea to tide me over until Westone fixes it... again.

I vote for keeping meet impression pictures full size (800 X 600 maximum)...I don't really like this new trend of thumbnails that need to be opened one by one to see what they are.
I would rather scroll through dozens of pics that I can glance at, than see a bunch of teeny tiny mystery pics that the photograper took a lot of time and effort to shoot.

Agree or disagree? Talk amongst yourselves.

Catscratch, the ESW-9's are an excellent headphone that has a higher price range due to leather and wood materials. The bass is powerful yet true (not bloated or bumped). The mids are clean and have excellent space and separation, and the highs are pretty accurate. The drivers are actually quite big in relation to the housing, compared to a...let's say, HD600.

However, I don't think that they can be compared to an IEM. I know when I compared my 10's to my ESW-9's the first thing that is obviously different is the amount of air that is moved by the 9's. I was listening to Hot Tuna's "Live At Sweetwater" I See The Light, and Jack Casady's bass growls and roars on the AT's, where it is just backround on the UE-10's. The AT's are more visceral, but it is an unfair comparison due to "dynamic" vs. "armature" and "in ear" vs. "on ear".

Different beasts that excel best in different situations.

Perhaps the epic mini-series writer "Voltron" can give us a short opinion, with the operative word being "short" . Also Vicki and Matt the younger can share their feelings.

BTW- When I was listening to the Genesis speakers, they were being run by the beautiful "hernia causing" Cary tube monos (I re-checked).

1st Big thanks to Tyrion ,his family for all the hard work & the rest of the gang who organized & helped make this a meet to Remember for all time.

2ndThis was my 3rd national meet that I attended & they keep getting better & better.First & foremost getting to hang out & party(They know how to throw a party in FLA) with the
most interesting & friendly people you can ever meet, from vendors to members.I all consider freinds.
Some members have said in past threads that the cost of going to national meets, they would rather buy gear instead.
While yes the meets are only a couple of days & they could enjoy the gear for a lot longer. The experience of attending & memories are priceless.
Only Downside is the time passes which seems a blink of the eye,but thats what happens when you are having fun.

3rd Some Gear impressions.

Highlight of the meet for me was the Smyth headphone setup, just unreal
how good it was.I use the pioneer 1000 Xbox dolby headphone setup to watch movies, the Smtyh setup is lightyears ahead.
I won't go into details as a lot has been written already.
I want one Bad

TTvj307a amp with the 808.2 15k player was at the top of the game,
this amp seems like a lot of money but it is a all in one amp(no need for multible amps) that is able to drive pretty much all dynamic phones very well.
I listened to the K1000,balanced 650,GS1000 & K701,all of them sounded
excellant.

E/C balancing act 300b/45 amp. Another winner & on my list to own when Craig builds it.I love the Zana which I own.
It was also great to finally meet Craig in person,I have spoken to him phone a number of times in the past.

Headrooms computer speaker setup complete with stands,For all who have a big desk & can listen through speakers nearfield while on a computer, this is a must have.Pretty much takes out the room equation as you sit so close,& get all the advantages of a good sounding speaker system only smaller.

Singlepower Oddessy,I listened to this & the Sonic.
I liked the sonic but fell in love with the oddessy, reminds me of the Transparent preamp I had a chance to listen to a couple of hours in my system, only sounded better to me.more body.
I Need to audition this in my own speaker system,I told Mikhail to just ship it to me from Canjam, but I won't hold my breath .I will have to Hijack it in the fall if Mikhial brings it to the next NY meet in Nov.

Justins BHSE was mighty fine sounding & looking good ,can't wait to see the finished product.I also got to spend sometime with the Pico,I liked.
Very detailed with wide sounstage clean sounding .good match for the
UE11s which is on my Radar.

Rsa B52 I sat down & took a listen with Rays balanced R10s & I can see why so many love the combo,I always enjoy listening to Rays amps good stuff.

Nates Menace amp,I almost missed it but did finally listen to it.
All I can say is VERY,VERY nice nate.you did a great job on this one, even with the yellow jumper cable.

The Headfiers of the years system consisting of Extreme Platinum, exempler denon 2900 /R10 setup was also struting its stuff.Vicki your system is better then you give it credit,Mid Fi No way.
Most would kill for a system like yours.

More Later!

I felt like I just got to Can Jam,next thing you Know you are typing impressions.Time Flies when you are having Fun.

Agree. ESW-9s sound good.

Short enough?

OK, now if you could just find the happy place between the long and the short

I kid, Al. I find your ramblings (er, I mean writings) as having some of the best content in any meet impression thread that you are involved in. You have a way of bringing what is deep inside the bowels of people's thoughts and bringing them out into words. Seriously, minus the bowels part.

You should have been a lawyer, or at least a reviewer or a moderator. You are quite level headed, which is probably why headphones fit you so well.

Write on V-Tron...write on.

As long as photo size doesn't go past 800x600. My work machine is at 1024x768 and having to scroll left/right to read text that's horribly distended from large pics gets very annoying.

If anything, I'd want to see the ad bar on the left side gone. I thought that was in place for CanJam, and would be gone afterwards... I really hope this wasn't just an excuse to up the level of advertising

Thanks, the impressions do help. I'm very hesitant about anything dynamic due to its slowness, but somehow I've missed a simple, portable, all-purpose headphone in my collection and this would fit the bill.

On the note of long ramblings - the more the merrier. I can't ever ask someone to put in the time to make a long detailed impressions post, but I do enjoy reading one when it appears.

Yes I really did love the OII MKII/KGBH SE system that much. It totally sent my AD2000 into oblivion which I thought would never happen!
Congrats, asr! Me too! Did you get the Alps RK50? Since I'm planning on a keeper rig, I went for it.
