I'm not grawk, but I liked them enough to sell a source I'm quite fond of at the meet in order to afford them if I don't win the raffle. I could only think that if they sounded this good with the universal tips, how much better they might sound custom. I heard the UE10s with the universal tips as well, and the presentation was much flatter, 100% wonderful, but after putting on the 11s, I knew I wanted them. I wondered if there would be too much bass, and there's certainly no lack, but it's bass done right.
Edwood, are you reading? I'm going to be sending you a couple ideas soon!
Yes, I'm reading.
If UE could cut back the bass a little with the UE11's they'd be perfect.

What amazes me is that they got it to sound plausible! The acoustic signature of a room with reflections + head in the full audio range is a tiny bit complex. A slight movement of the head during the calibration will mess up the measurement is it will become hypersentitive to head movements as you go up in frequency. I am amazed they got something robust. It also seems very very cheap for what it does (you need quite a bit of electronics to do any kind of serious room acoustics processing).
I guess your earbud wouldn't appreciate a 40dB boost at 20Hz because the filter is compensating for the poor bass response of your cans .
Thank you for describing the process, it did answer my questions. They're basically measuring HRTFs, equalizing out the response of the headphones (but not that of the room or speakers) and altering them as you rotate your head around. I am amazed they actually can make it work (with head tracking) by recording so few angles and relying on a guys head that's never quite steady during each measurement!
Time to find an anechoic chamber and borrow a very very nice high end loudpeaker (only need 1, not even a pair!).
Sure nothing is brand new, but no one has created a system that has worked so well and convincingly so. Best part is how flexible the system is.
anyone have an email address or any way of contacting either of the two gentlemen? i wanted to thank them again for taking the time to go through the whole presentation with each and every person who was there with a massive reserve of patience. i certainly am not capable of that. not that other sponsors didnt do that. but i feel that the smyth guys went the extra mile in terms of individual attention. blame that on the nature of their product if you want but they could have also been very rude and pushy about it and they werent.
if anyone has their email address please let me know.
Oh, and Wayne needs to clear his calendar a little better and be more focused on the meets. Well, come to think of it, it wouldn't be Wayne if that were true.
Jeez Al. I think the Academy Awards overblown speech music started playing around the second paragraph of that post. Your sound got cut off a bit later, sorry bud. You didn't get to thank God or your poodle, gotta win again to keep them happy. Of course I keed and all.
But on the Wayne subject, I'm not sure he wants me to debut his new monstrosity, but it's literally in my driveway and I've already got the pics so he'll deal. I'm sure high quality pics will follow from the new camera rig he unpacked at the meet.
I take it no Senn 'HD800' was released at CanJam then.........

Sennheiser *did* plan on some form of announcement and more product space in their initial dealings (from what I know, I wasn't involved in that aspect). I asked the Sennheiser rep (can't remember his name, good guy though), and he simply said that he can't say what it is, but it took longer than expected and couldn't debut here. This was all in very vague "nudge nudge wink wink" type terms but that's what I got. Oh and there was some mention of being blown away by whatever this secret thing is.

Not even going to raise an eyebrow. Otherwise, Sennheiser is going to have a hard time living it down if they unveil anything other than a flagship full size can.
Justin said they would be done by the end of the summer.
Very excited too about the balanced dynamic rig that'll be keeping me company in the meantime, it looks like it's finally going to all come together soon.
